born in Soham, Cambridge County, England and came to Norfolk, VA in 1635 at the age
of 20 with his brother, Thomas, aboard the GLOBE from the
port of London. The James Register of Ships recorded that John Manning went to
Virginia on the Ship, Globe of London, in 1635. He was granted 200 acres
of land in 1648 for bringing four new settlers to the colony. John and Lydia were married in Norfolk
in 1636. In 1669 record is found of John and Lydia Manning living on the Eastern
Branch of the Elizabeth River in Norfolk County, VA. On April 15, 1651, John
Manning was appointed constable for Southern Branch, Lower Norfolk County.
He died in Norfolk County, VA.

born in New Kent County, VA; fought in the Marines in SC; he was a
planter and a patriot; he lived and died near Latta, SC, near the Pee Dee
River. He settled in Marion County before the Revolution because he sold
beeves (cattle) to the SC State Militia during the Revolution and was paid
for same. His sons fought under Gen. Francis Marion; he had his first recorded
land grant for 600 acres surveyed 12-19-1787, in Book 20, p. 435.

there until her death in 1847. Moses Manning II sold to William Manning 362
acres that was granted to Moses' brother, Martin Manning, on October 11, 1796.
Moses had inherited the property from his brother's will. William received
a land grant of 120 acres on May 7, 1810 which was recorded in Book K6, p. 153.
